FAQ

During our busy season, we may not always be able to answer our phones. Our top priorities during business hours are making sure our plants are cared for and watered, and taking care of customers that are physically in the store. Thank you for understanding!

We have many of the same questions asked several times a day, so here is a helpful FAQ for everyone.

Q: Are you open in the Winter?

Yes! Our business hours are typically shorter during the Winter season. If there is poor weather we may close early.

Q: Can you special order a plant?

A: No. There are a lot of reasons for this, but availability from suppliers changes rapidly so getting specific plants isn’t always feasible. Also, just because we order a plant does not mean that the supplier will send us that plant. (This happens a lot.) On top of this, we have to order a minimum amount to even place an order. We cannot order just a few things here and there.

However, we do listen to what our customers are asking for and take it into consideration when placing future orders.

Q: What time do you close?

Please check our hours online as they change with the seasons. We close at closing time. You unfortunately cannot come in after our posted closing hours to shop. You must check out at closing time.

Q: Where do I pay for my plants?

A: Checkout is inside the large white barn that says “SNOOPERS”. There will probably be a line during our busy season! It is helpful when customers can form an organized line on their own. We try to work through our checkout lines as fast as possible! Please shop for pots, fertilizers, and other supplies inside the store BEFORE getting in line to check out. Do not enter the line until you are done shopping. This will help us move our line faster.

Q: What are those white spots on your roses?

A: The white spots on the roses are nothing to be concerned about. We do some extra work and spray all of our roses with a fungicide on a regular basis. (And you should too!) The white spots are residue from the fungicide and protects them from disease.

Roses do not like their leaves wet. When you are watering your roses, keep this in mind. To protect our roses from rain water, we use a fungicide. Without protection from the fungicide, the roses’ leaves will turn yellow and black and then fall off. This is called powdery mildew and black spot.

Fungicide residue on a freshly treated rose bush. This is not harmful – it’s a good thing!

Q: Can you hold a plant for me?

A: No. We sell plants on a first come, first serve basis. We have limited space and cannot guarantee someone else won’t snag your plant. Also, unfortunately many people do not pick up held plants meaning we hold a plant for someone that never comes when someone else in the store may have wanted to purchase it.

Q: Can you recommend a plant for me?

A: Yes, we are happy to help with plant recommendations! We can make some suggestions as time permits. However, we cannot design your entire landscape. That is something you will need to hire a landscape designer for or prepare for carefully yourself. If you need some extra help and ideas, our website does have a plant recommendation page.

Q: Why aren’t those cool plants for sale?

A: There are a few reasons why some plants are not for sale. Just like you, we like plants too and we have a few specimens in our own personal collections. We sometimes use these as display plants to show our customers what their plants can look like one day.

We also grow many of our own plants and need a big “Mother Plant” to use for cuttings. We need to keep at least one big plant (sometimes several) in order to make more. Otherwise, we won’t have any to sell in the future.

Q: Why do some greenhouses say “Staff Only”?

A: There are 4 retail greenhouses on the property that our customers are welcome to shop in!

We also have 3 additional production greenhouses that are marked “Staff Only”. We need these production greenhouses to grow plants to sell. The plants inside of these greenhouses are not ready for sale yet. Some of the plants in these greenhouses are stock plants that we use for cuttings. Please do not enter these greenhouses and try to purchase plants from them. They are for staff only.

One of our big, cool plants that isn’t for sale. This Desert Rose is 20 or so years old. She gives us seed pods that we can use to make more Desert Rose babies.

Q: Is there a discount if I buy a lot of stuff? Do you sell wholesale price? Is there a discount for landscapers?

A: No, we do not offer volume discounts. If you have a large landscaping job and wish to purchase plants at wholesale price, we recommend visiting a wholesale nursery with your license. We are retail only.

Q: Do you offer a military discount or senior citizen discount?

A: We do not offer these at this time. We extend our already low and competitive prices to everyone who visits.

Q: Do your trees and plants have a warranty? Can I return a plant?

A: No. All plant sales are final. Once you purchase a tree or plant, it becomes your responsibility to care for. Check with your HOA before purchasing plants. Research and plan carefully so you do not purchase too many plants.

Unfortunately, too many people try to return plants that are not adequately watered or cared for. We unfortunately cannot take returns on plants that are in poor condition after going home with you. Once a plant is purchased from our store, it becomes the responsibility of its new owner.

If you do not water your tree or shrub, it will die. We cannot be responsible for this. Newly planted trees and shrubs get very thirsty in the Summer and our Summers are very rough on them. Especially during the first year. This is a risk you take when purchasing a tree or shrub.

Q: Can I have credit for plants that were purchased before the 2021 Winter Storm?

A: No. We are very sad to hear that many of our customers’ beloved plants died during the Winter Storm. However, we cannot control the weather and cannot give credit for plants purchased prior to the storm. Once a plant is purchased from our store, it becomes the responsibility of its new owner. If plants were not properly protected during the storm, we have no control over it.

Q: Do you carry sod?

A: No. We do not carry sod.

Q: Can I purchase a large plant and pick it up later? Or have my landscaper pick it up?

A: Sometimes. We will hold pre-purchased trees only for up to 5 days. Any purchased trees that are not picked up in a timely manner will be refunded if purchased by someone else.

Q: Will that tree fit in my small car?

A: Maybe. If it is a 5 gallon tree, it will probably fit in a car or SUV. Anything larger and you will need a truck. We will not be responsible for loading large plants and trees into your SUV or car. We are happy to assist loading large trees into trucks and appropriately sized plants and other items into your car or SUV.

We also have a lot of experience loading trees into vehicles! We know what works well and what doesn’t. If you have a specific way you would like your tree to fit in your vehicle and don’t care for our suggestions, please feel free to load the tree yourself. We do not have time to wrestle with putting trees in cars with inadequate methods. Also, be aware that your vehicle could get dirt in it.

If you do not see your question answered here, please give us a call and we will be happy to help. Thank you!

Q: Can you tell me when you will have a certain plant in stock?

Maybe and maybe not. Predicting when a certain plant will be in stock is kind of like predicting the weather. Sometimes we are accurate and sometimes we are not. Just because we order a plant, doesn’t mean it will actually be delivered. It can be difficult to predict how fast something will grow. Complications with plants can arise. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the difficulty of knowing exactly when a plant will be in stock. During our busy season, we stock our shelves with new plants every day. We also sell out of plants on a daily basis. Inventory changes rapidly at times.

Q: Can you call me when you get a certain plant in stock?

No. Unfortunately, there would be too many people to keep up with to be able to keep a promise for this. Our best suggestion is for you to remember to call us back and check again later.
